Invasive Red Swamp Crayfish dumped near river

A citizen tip to the DNR led to the installation of silt fence at the Sauk Prairie canoe landing on June 21 to stop an invasive species.

DNR staff responded to the dumping of the red swamp crayfish at the landing. Approximately 1,000 feet of silt fence was installed in order to stop the crayfish from reaching the Wisconsin River. Sauk City public works assisted on June 28, leading to the installation of 900 feet of new fencing in just over an hour. DNR staff surveyed the area and found dead crayfish, which were removed.
