What's in a name? Locally christened August Derleth Bridge loses a sign

A mystery concerning the disappearance of one of the "August Derleth bridge" signs was resolved with a bit of research last weekend.

The Highway 12 bridge over the Wisconsin River was dedicated as the August Derleth Bridge by Sauk City, according to a June 27, 1991 article in the Sauk Prairie Star. On June 30 of the same year, Char Olson, then-president of the August Derleth Society, christened the bridge with a bottle of champaign. Her enthusiasm led to her receiving stiches from flying glass.
