A two-vehicle crash at Highway 12 and County PF claimed the life of a passenger on May 14. Around 5:45 p.m, a white Chevy sedan traveling southbound on Highway 12 turned east onto County PF into the path of a northbound Chevy SUV. The SUV struck the sedan on the passenger side. The passenger, Wilfred Gasser, 95, from Plain, was extricated from the vehicle but was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevy sedan was transported to UW Hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the Chevy SUV was transported to the Sauk Prairie Hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. All parties involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and speed does not appear to be a factor. The crash remains under investigation by the Sauk Prairie Police Department and the Sauk County Sheriff's Department reconstruction team. Also assisting in the investigation was the Prairie Fire Department, Sauk Prairie EMS, Baraboo EMS and paramedic unit and the Sauk County Coroner's Office.
