Sauk Prairie School District math students have been very busy this spring.  Two seventh and eighth grade teams and two fifth and sixth grade teams competed at the Newton Regional Math Tournament, held on April 9.  The meet was hosted by Sauk Prairie Schools and held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Sac. In all, 128 students, representing five school districts, took part in the meet. Sauk Prairie's fifth and sixth grade team of Booke Heinz, Taylen Young, Maggie Hartwig, Josh Mast, Reese Grinstead, Abby Barrett, John Fabian and Hannah Stephan placed second overall, which qualifies them for the Dane County Mega Math Meet, which will be held at Madison College in May. The teams were led by Reese Grinstead, who placed 4th overall. Sauk Prairie's seventh and eighth grade team of Austin Pagel, Jackson Breunig, Logan Magnuson, Randy Trudell, Austin Kaukl, Gabe Harter, Nick Basken, and Riley Talmage, placed first and will also qualify for the Mega Math Meet.  Sauk Prairie's seventh and eighth graders snagged four of the top five places at the meet, with Nick Basken placing first overall, along with Carly Kinnamon, Gabe Harter, and Riley Talmage. Congratulations to these outstanding math students and their coaches, Eighth Grade Math Teacher, Scott Bakken, and Sixth Grade Math Teacher, Kelly Olson.  Thanks to Culver's for their generous donation of custard tokens to all of the participants and to St. John's Lutheran Church for donating the space for the competition.
