Midwest memoir

When it comes to reading someone’s memoir, I have certain expectations. Does the story come alive or have a specific focus? It’s disappointing when there’s just a scattering of memories with no point or theme to tie it all together. Equally unsatisfactory is when the prose reads more like a dry newspaper article than someone’s actual life. For me, the worst is when the timeline jumps around so much that I want to lie down until the dizziness passes.
