At the March 13th Optimist meeting, the January Student of the Month was honored. (Due to bad weather and school being canceled, this award was postponed until March.). The January SPHS Student of the Month was Arista Detter, daughter of Mark and Michele Detter. Arista was selected by the SPHS music department who had this to say about her, "We can think of no one that better fits the criteria for Student of the Month than Arista Detter. She is currently a co-captain of the High School color guard along with being a primary instructor for the Middle School color guard during the summer. She is also our current YTBN Show Choir Student Director/Dance Captain and also worked as a dance captain for our fall musical production. She leads her peers and helps them to become the best performing versions of themselves. She led our color guard to a best color guard trophy in our debut weekend of the marching band season and continues to impress us. Arista isn't a person who backs down from growth. She is a great performer already, but is constantly searching out ways to improve her abilities. She has taken a wind instrument back up during her senior year. She gives so much through service and volunteering to our music department. She will run additional sectionals to help other improve. Even more impressive, she serves as our digital curator. Arista has taken on the job of digitizing decades of VHS tapes to help preserve the music department's long performing history before the tape degrades any further. She also serves as our social media coordinator to help us get the word out about impending performances and letting the public know what goes on in our department. Lastly, and most impressively, is Arista's integrity. She is a person who does what she says she will do. Arista is an immeasurable asset to our program and curriculum." Better plans on going to college at Viterbo University or UW-Stevens Point in musical theatre with a dance minor.
