Sauk Prairie's boys drop playoff opener

MONROE — Few teams could mirror the size of the Sauk Prairie boys basketball lineup this season, which featured four starters 6-foot-4 or taller.

But the ninth-seeded Eagles met their match in eighth-seeded Monroe, when the Cheesemakers played host to their WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal game on Feb. 26.

Senior Spencer Breunig scored a game-high 22 points to pace Sauk Prairie. But Monroe, which also had four starters listed at 6-4 or taller, squeaked out a thrilling 61-56 victory to end the Eagles’ season.
