Wisconsin Has the World’s Largest Population of Lake Sturgeon on Lake Winnebago

In the early1900’s, the lake sturgeon population was almost extinct due to over harvest and illegal poaching. But, through the efforts of conservation groups like Sturgeons for Tomorrow many volunteers, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources these huge and prehistoric fish have thrived in Lake Winnebago.

Now, these fish with the shocking and the spring netting have biologists are believing that there are 15,000 female and 30,000 male sturgeon in Lake Winnebago and the Upper Lakes of Poygan, Winn...
