One of my favorite songs is “Coffee and Cigarettes” by Jimmy Eat World. It’s a song about distant memories, a certain particular experience, and a celebration of the past. The lyrics aren’t a perfect encapsulation of something from my life, but they’re close. And although there’s no overt reference to coffee and cigarettes in the song, that combination hovers over the lyrics.
