Late January eagle count shows cold and snow causing eagles to leave

On January 27, 2019 Ferry Bluff Eagle Council volunteers collectively counted 50 eagles with 40 hours of effort. Since the last count on January 13, there have been several large additions of snow and cold. From the eagle perspective, this means that off-river foraging sites are covered up with snow and down-river foraging sites are covered with ice. The Wisconsin River is pretty much 100% frozen from just downstream of Ferry Bluff to Prairie du Chien.
