Mike Fields and Tricia Peetz are the co-owners of Just For Kids.

Since October of last year, children and parents in the Sauk Prairie area have had their own toy and gently used clothes store. Co-owners Mike Fields and Tricia Peetz opened Just For Kids in the fall, and their store is packed full of toys and clothes.

Fields and Peetz began working consignment sales 3 years ago, and they quickly established a good collection of children's clothes. "We started with 5 totes, and by the end had 70 totes," said Fields. He had to buy a 16-foot trailer to haul the clothes.

About a year ago, Fields noted to Peetz that the 30% they lost to consignees more than equaled overhead for a store. The seed was planted.

After searching for a store with enough room for toys and clothes, they chose a location in a new building on Water St., tucked just south of Phillips Blvd. Stacked full of items, the store explodes with color in all shapes and sizes. If they somehow don't have what you're looking for, they'll order it for you.

Just For Kids features the popular brand Melissa and Doug. Their toys are wooden and durable. "Grandmas come in, say 'Oh, I bought this for my kids, and I still have this,'" says Fields. "They're going out the door." Melissa and Doug toys include trucks, cars, and the Created By Me line, where children can paint their toys.

Perhaps the most popular part of the store is a playroom for children, to keep them busy while their parents shop. "The hard part is trying to get them to leave" once their parents are done shopping, says Fields.

Just For Kids features a large selection of gently used children's clothes. Racks stretch towards the back of the store, in every size. They have totes in storage with even more clothes, so they're not close to running out.

They also carry used books. "We've got a lot of used books-a whole lot," says Fields.

Just For Kids pays for gently used boys and girls clothing, toys, and books. Shoppers can stop by the store to get intake rules.

The store is located at 944 Water St, and is open Tuesday-Wednesday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Their website is http://www.justforkidsonline.net
