Wrestlers win Sauk Invite

Eagles shine after loss to Waunakee

Sauk Prairie crowned four champions in winning its own Eagle Invitational wrestling competition last Saturday. Topping the podium were (from left) junior Dawson Enge (22-6 at 113 pounds), senior Bryant Schaaf (26-3 at 160), junior Simon Patterson (15-5 at 170) and senior Reece Bierstaker (20-9 at 220). The Eagles also finished atop the 19-team field with 311 points.

In the span of less than 24 hours, it was a rollercoaster of emotions for the Sauk Prairie wrestling team last weekend.

The Eagles lost an exciting Badger North Conference dual at Waunakee, 33-30, on Friday night.

But before Sauk Prairie could bemoan a defeat to its closest rival, which put a damper on the Eagles' chase for their ninth consecutive league championship, the team had to set up its gym for its own Eagle Invitational that started bright and early on Saturday morning.

The Eagles, though, never faltered, placing 10 wrestlers in the semifinals and crowning four individual champions...
