Each day, you see the sun rise in the east and set in the west. A middle-aged person witnesses this close to 15,000 times. Have you ever wondered, one morning before sunrise, if the sun will rise in the east again? What if it rises in the west? Or the north? This may seem like a silly, even worthless thing to wonder, but it reveals interesting insights into our epistemology—a fancy word for how we come to know things.

So how do you know that the sun will rise in the east?
