Deer season ends with Holiday Hunt

The deer hunting season finished up with a holiday hunt from late December to January 1.

Most deer are shot in the first weekend of gun season, which was promising this year. There was snow on the ground and temperatures hovered in the 30s with no strong winds, so it was easy for hunters to stay outside longer, said Nancy Frost, a senior wildlife biologist with the DNR out of Spring Green.

She said snow not only makes it easier to see deer but also improves the ability to track animals.
