The Arena Village Board has had lots of residents attending the meetings lately. They appreciate it and wish more people would come to meetings. The village is considering buying the Arena Elementary School building and using it as a community center. All the entities that are at the current building would move to the “new” building. There are plans for remodeling and at this last meeting, they had a gentleman there showing the plans for the building. Pretty nice. Going to cost some funds but they don’t have to do it all at once.

The village office would be there, the police department, the library, the food pantry and the Arena Historians would be there. This is now all held in the current building. Here’s what we found interesting: Did you know that there are tunnels/crawl spaces around the building to hold the pipes for the heat? We never knew that. Can you imagine how fun that would have been to “play” in there years ago?

As mentioned above, the boards that govern our towns, villages, schools, counties, would appreciate attendance at meetings. They want to hear your thoughts and questions as to the happenings and decisions that are need to be made. And don’t forget the committees that take care of the little things and report to the boards for action.

We want to thank everyone that tells us we’re doing a good job and that they’re glad we’re continuing in Marion’s shoes. So, here it is-a recipe! Thanks Marion.

Grandma’s Potato Chip Cookies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. No need to grease baking sheets with all the butter.

2 cups softened butter (yes, you read it)

1 cup white sugar

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Mash butter, sugar and vanilla together in a bowl until creamy and well combined. (a long time)

Mix in 3 ½ cups flour sifted, a little at a time. Gently fold in 2 cups crushed salted potato chips.

Drop dough onto greased baking sheets by teaspoon full. Squish a little with a fork. Bake until edges are golden brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from baking sheets immediately and cool on wire racks. Sprinkle with powdered sugar while warm.

Happy Birthday wishes Carol R., Dave F., John H. and Carrie S.B.!

We hope your Christmas is Merry and your New Year is Happy!
