Junie at her finest

The second sentient thing I see just about every morning is a large goat named Junie.

Philosophers have pondered for millennia the question of whether animals have consciousness, like humans. This column is not about that question. This column is about the endless enjoyment and confusion my friend Junie brings to me every day.

Barely a year after moving into my nice, quiet apartment in the woods, my landlords announced a new arrival. Within a month, Junie, a large goat, and Moonshadow, a much smaller goat with ears that looked like tiny devil horns, matching her personality, would be coming...
