Mental health training in Black Earth

October 25, 2018

Sauk Prairie Health Foundation is helping to locally address a nationwide mental healthcare crisis by offering residents training in Mental Health First Aid.

Mental Health First Aid is a two-part training program which teaches how to identify, un-derstand, and respond to the signs of addiction and mental illness, taught by a certified instructor following a national curriculum, emphasizing hope and recovery.

According to the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality an average of 360,000 adults 18 and older with mental illness received mental health services within the past year between 2011 and 2015, though many dealing with such conditions find difficulty accessing nearby resources for treatment.

Training will be held at the Village of Black Earth Municipal Building at 1210 Mills Street on the Mondays of November 12 and November 19 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The course is free, but space is limited.

Participants must register prior to the event through the Sauk Prairie Healthcare website at http://www.saukprairiehealthcare.org/mhfa. Those with questions about the event can contact Sauk Prairie Healthcare at 608-643-7648.
