Heights spikers second at Monroe Invite

The Wisconsin Heights girls volleyball team finished second at the Monroe Invite last Saturday. In front (from left) are Abby Wolfe, Jada Wood, Rylin Hodson, Destiny Brown and Kelsi Handel. There are new players up and down the lineup.

The results, though, look awfully familiar.

Wisconsin Heights' girls' volleyball team finished second last Saturday at the highly-competitive Monroe Invitational. The Vanguards went 3-1 on the day, losing only to eventual champion Watertown Luther Prep.

Heights standout Tayler Kraemer was voted to the all-tournament team.

"A bit inconsistent throughout the day, but working out the kinks," Heights coach Amy Schlimgen said. "Should be a fun year."

The Vanguards opened with a 25-8, 25-14 win over New Glarus.

Jada Wood had nine assists and four aces, while Kylee Doherty had three kills. Rylin Hodson had six aces and six digs, Raegan Doherty had two kills and three aces, Ashlee Adler had two kills and three aces, Tayler Kraemer had two kills and Kelsi Handel had two kills.

Watertown Luther Prep then defeated Heights, 23-25, 25-18, 16-14.

Adler had seven kills, four saves and 12 digs, while Wood had 17 assists, two aces, two kills, six digs, five blocks and two saves. Kraemer had three kills, five digs, five blocks and two aces, while Handel had three kills, 13 digs, two aces, two blocks and two saves. Raegan Doherty had three kills and two aces, Kylee Doherty added two kills, Destiny Brown had seven digs and two saves, while Hodson had seven digs and two saves.

The Vanguards then notched a thrilling 15-25, 27-25, 15-8 over a Mount Horeb team favored to win the Northern Badger Conference.

"Huge unexpected upset," Schlimgen said. "That got our team fired up a bit."

Adler finished with 14 kills, nine digs, four aces, two blocks and two saves, while Kraemer had seven kills and 16 digs. Wood had 14 assists, two kills, eight digs and three saves, while Handel had two kills, two aces and seven digs. Hodson had two aces, seven digs and three saves, Raegan Doherty had two kills and Kylee Doherty added two kills and two saves. 

The Vanguards then finished with a 25-18, 25-17 win over Monroe.

Kraemer had five kills and eight digs, while Adler had four kills, three aces and three saves. Handel had four kills, seven digs, and two blocks, Wood had 11 assists and three aces, Raegan Doherty had two kills and three aces, Hodson had two aces, two digs and two saves and Brown had three digs and two saves.
