Heavy rain prompts evacuation, Highway 14 closed, portions of Mazo asked to evacuate (updating)

Over 11 inches of rain fell over western Dane County, including Black Earth and Mazomanie, sending Black Earth Creek over its banks and flooding the downtown areas of both villages.

The western portion of Black Earth was evacuated early Tuesday morning as floodwaters rose. Roughly 75 people were evacuated, and there were several water rescues. Highway 14 near Mills Street washed out. The National Weather Service reported that Black Earth Creek reached an all-time high.
