Man in Maplewood sexual assault case to have hearing

Galen Malisch was a resident

July 26, 2018

A former resident of Maplewood Nursing Home Sauk Prairie faces a preliminary hearing on July 26 for sexual assault charges. Galen J. Malisch, 59, formerly of Sauk City, is charged with 2 counts of sexual assault, along with other charges.

Sauk Prairie police were called to Maplewood on May 9 for a possible sexual assault. Employees recounted that on the previous day, an employee observed Malisch touching another resident.

When questioned by police, Malisch said that he did touch the resident. Malisch said he hoped that because of the resident’s advanced age, they wouldn’t say anything to the staff.

When asked if he had assaulted any other resident, Malisch said that four or five months ago he had. In both cases, Malisch said he had done so for sexual gratification.

Malisch is a convicted sex offender. In 1987 he was convicted of 2nd-degree sexual assault--incest with a child. According to the report Malisch had sexual contact with his daughter for 11 years.

Malisch’s current charges include a hate crime provision, because of his victim’s disability.
