Wisconsin Heights graduate Isabelle Wright, first recipient of the Kind Scholarship, will be following in the footsteps of long-time Heights employees Will and Bea Kind.

"Mom and dad were high school sweethearts," said Steve Kind, their son. They were from the Fond du Lac area. Will Kind served in the army, then graduated from UW-LaCrosse with a degree in education.

He then taught in the Brodhead area from 1964-68. The family, with their five children, moved to Mazomanie in 1968. Kind taught biology. He also coached boy's basketball, girl's basketball, and baseball. He retired in 1991.

Bea Kind became the secretary at Black Earth grade school, eventually becoming the school librarian. She retired in 1997.

Wright will be attending UW-Eau Claire, majoring in elementary education and minoring in Spanish. She was captain of the varsity soccer team, secretary and vice president of the art club, and a member of the Spanish club. She received first place for ceramics at the Visual Arts Classic meet and was student of the quarter in the fall of 2015. "I'm very grateful to the Kind family for being the first recipient of their family scholarship," said Wright.

Steve Kind explained, "Mom and dad would be happy that the scholarship would be able to help a student in education."
