A visit to Vandehoney gets up close and personal with honeybees. See "Around the Block" on p. 4.

Judy and Billy Vandehoney do not live in terror of bees, as some of us do, as much as they live with bees. And they seem quite happy with the situation. "The hive by the house is really aggressive today," said Billy, as I stood next to him, surrounded by somewhat irritated bees.

I visited Vandehoney, located in the hills of the Vermont Valley, in mid-May, on a humid spring morning. As we made our way up the hill we reached a clearing where you could see down the valley.
