Sauk City rail bridge project begins

Preliminary work started in late January to prepare for removing portions of the Sauk City rail bridge. The project calls for removing piers one, two and three of the bridge with spans one, two and three. After a pier of the bridge over the Wisconsin River moved in 2016, Westbrook Associated Engineers concluded the pier is in a failed condition, and recommended removal of the structure.

The rail bridge has been in disrepair since 2002 and is more than 100 years old. At a meeting in December 2017, the Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission awarded the bid for the stabilization of the bridg...
