Week of Feb. 8, 1918

The local public schools have been closed for a week due to the coal shortage.  The out-of-town teachers have gone home.

Owing to the fuel shortage the Home Economics club deserted their usual place of meeting and gathered at the home of the president, Miss Josephine Merk, Tuesday evening. 29 ladies were present.  The program was on food conservation and there were demonstrations including war bread, war muffins, eggless corn bread, war butter and vinegar bees.
