Photos from: Fire destroys Mazomanie home, community helps family

Early Saturday morning a house in Mazomanie caught fire. Firefighters struggled to extinguish the fire, and by the time it was out, the house was considered a total loss. The Mickelson family safely evacuated with their dog. At approximately 3:05 a.m. on Saturday February 2, 2019, the Dane County Sheriff's Office, the Village of Mazomanie Fire Department, the Village of Black Earth Fire Department, and Sauk City fire department responded to a single-family residential structure fire located at 24 W. High Street in the Village of Mazomanie. Upon their arrival, the residents and their pet were located safely outside of the residence. There were visible flames with heavy smoke. The estimated value of the home is approximately $140,000. The Red Cross was on the scene assisting the family. District One EMS and Sauk Prairie EMS also responded. The Village of Mazomanie Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire but has indicated it does not appear suspicious and likely originated in the kitchen. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family, there is a fund at Peoples Community Bank,and collection jars have been placed at RJ's and Rookies.
