The Knights of Columbus Council 7811 for Mazomanie/Black Earth raised $2,200 on their own, and received another $26,400 from State Council funds, and gave $325 to 88 families affected by the August floods in Mazomanie and Black Earth. "It's just the community coming together to help out," said Council Financial Secretary Bill Beuthin. State funds come from an annual raffle. The local council had a brat fry and funds from Concerts in the Park. Affected families were identified from two sources: those who picked up gift cards from St. Barnabas, and people Knights knew. "We wanted to help however we could," said Beuthin. He saw the impact of the floods, with a neighbor, a cousin, and his in-laws affected. "The good part about Mazo, Black Earth, and Cross Plains, everyone tried to help in any way they could. We're part of a good community that wants to help in any way that they can."
