Decorative Painting Classes

Decorative Painting is a diverse art form using a variety of techniques and media to decorate functional and non-functional surfaces. This is a highly teachable art form. We use patterns or free-hand designs to allow a high degree of success without any drawing ability. Decorative painting can be learned by anyone. The Community Center has three classes coming this July. All classes run three weeks, 6-8pm at the Community Center.

Lighthouse Ticket Bowl, Mondays, July 9-23

Create this unusual bowl using a single roll of paper tickets. The instructor will show you how to shape and prepare your bowl, then seal it and paint it blue. After this you will paint a summer seascape on it, including a lighthouse. Buy your tickets before class at an office supply store.

Berry Bucket, Tuesdays, July 10-24

Paint a calico cat, (or bring a picture of your cat to copy), peering through a bramble bush of ripe red raspberries on a 6x8” tine berry bucket. The bucket should be spray painted before class (white) and cost about $6.

Mixed Fruit Lampshade, Thursdays, July 12 - 26

These mini-lampshades are 4” tall and are designed to be used on a glass goblet with a 2 ¾” opening and a tea light. They are made of styrene so they are easy to paint on flat mixed fruit: apple, pear, grapes and a plum. Bring your own goblet. Cost of shade included.

To register go to or stop in at the Community Center (730 Monroe Street, Sauk City).
