Heights falls short at state

Vanguards edged in semifinals

It was a season they'll never forget.

One in which they broke through and made a name for themselves throughout the state.

Unfortunately for the Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld girls soccer team, it came to an end last Friday.

The Vanguards reached the WIAA Division 4 state tournament for the first time in school history. But Cedar Grove/Belgium edged WH/B, 1-0, in a state semifinal game held at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

The Vanguards, seeded fourth at the state tournament, finished the year 12-5. CG/B, the No. 1 seed at state, improved to 16-1-1 before losing to third-seeded Kenosha St...
