Phyllis Rose Goerks

Phyllis Rose Goerks, age 92, died June 13, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI.  Phyllis was born on October 21, 1925 in Honey Creek to George and Sena (Buelow) Goerks.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Floyd Goerks, George (Lorraine) Goerks, Sylvia (Clarence) Dunse, Mildred (Marvin) Diske, Lucille (Leonard) Plants, Aletha (Kenneth) Porter and brother in-law Elvin Koenig.  Throughout her life, Phyllis brought happiness to many people by her laughter and appreciation for life. Phyllis was a proud owner of the Goerks Family Tavern for most of her life. She enjoyed spending her time talking with people, dancing the polka and listening/singing to old-time country music. 

Although Phyllis lost her vision 18 years ago, she never lost sight of what mattered most - her faith and her family. Through faith and family, Phyllis entered every day with a positive attitude.  She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Leland, WI.  She valued her siblings, and treated her nieces and nephews as children of her own.  Phyllis was fortunate enough to live in a beautiful home in Sauk City, WI with her niece Cheryl (Porter) Cody for the last 18 years of her life. This allowed her to stay close to family, and continue to bring joy into the lives of everyone around her.

She was loved and will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews, Donald "Stormy" (Virginia) Diske, Donna Bailey, Duvonne (Ken) Cummings, Linda Prater, Diane (Dale) Ruhland, Chester Goerks, Clay (Carman) Goerks, Georgia Reetz, Roxi (Don) Miese, Reggie (Deb) Westphal, Gloria (Jim) Pierce, Delephine Koenig, Greg (Phyllis) Porter, Cheryl (George) Cody, and many great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Phyllis was further preceded in death by a few of her nieces and nephews, Willis (June) Koenig, Donelda Kuhnau, Merle Koenig, Dick Bailey, Urk Prater, and Dean Reetz.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20th at St. John›s Lutheran Church in Leland, WI followed by a luncheon at the church.  A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Hooverson Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19th and also from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20th at St. John›s Lutheran Church in Leland.
