Man receives five years probation for starting two fires in Sauk City

A Mount Horeb man last week received five years of probation and was ordered to pay nearly $10,000 in restitution for starting two fires in a Sauk City apartment building while living there in 2017.

On Monday, April 2 the Sauk County District Attorney's Office agreed to dismiss a second charge against Kurt J. Haugen, 47, in exchange for his no-contest plea to a first count of felony arson.

According to a representative in the District Attorney's office, both the prosecution and the defense recommended the decision, which also requires Haugen to undergo a drug and alcohol assessment and take...
