Swimmers win own invite

The Sauk Prairie-Wisconsin Heights boys swimming team won the Sauk Prairie Invitational last Saturday.

The Eagles finished with 626 points to outdistance runner-up Monona Grove (468). Ashwaubenon was third with 360 points, Neenah was fourth (342) and McFarland was fifth (309).

It was the second year in a row and the third time in the six-year history of the invitational that Sauk Prairie claimed the team championship.

In the opening event, the 200-yard medley relay, Sauk Prairie’s quartet of Desmon Sachtjen, Allan Brickl, Ayden Frey and Ben Chao set a new meet record of 1:37.58. 

Reese Drager won the 100-yard IM (57.32), while Sachtjen won the 200-yard IM (1:58.12). Frey won the 100-yard butterfly (52.93) and Sachtjen won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.85).

Sauk-Heights also won the 8x50 yard freestyle relay. The Eagles’ foursome included Frey, Payton Fandrich, Drager, Adam Stecker, Ben Chao, Brickl, Jake Guentherman and Sachtjen.

The Eagles’ also got second place finishes from Guentherman in the 200-yard freestyle and Frey in the 100-yard backstroke.

Sauk-Heights added third place finishes from Brickl in the 100-yard IM, Drager in the 100-yard freestyle and Guentherman in the 500-yard freestyle. The Eagles’ 100-yard freestyle relay team of Drager, Stecker, Guentherman and Fandrich was also third.
