River Valley Players (RVP) seeks actors for their production of “The Cricket on the Hearth,” adapted from the Charles Dickens Christmas story by director Bruce G. Bradley.

Auditions will take place at the Spring Green Public Library community room on:

• Saturday, Oct. 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Sunday, Oct. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m.

• Monday, Oct. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.

You will be asked to read from the script and possibly do a short, improvised scene.

A copy of the script is available for perusal beforehand.

Performances will be at the Gard Theatre, Spring Green on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.

Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, Oct. 15, and will typically run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, until the last two weeks before the show. (An exact schedule is still being formulated.) There will be NO rehearsals the week of Thanksgiving. All rehearsals will be held in Spring Green. Not all actors will be called for every rehearsal.

The cast requirements are listed below. There is some flexibility on age range, so you are encouraged to audition even if you think you’re not an exact fit for a character:

• John Peerybingle (late 30s/mid 40s) a laborer - burly, plain-spoken, warmhearted, honest to a fault

• Dot Peerybingle (mid 20s/early 30s) John’s wife - sweet but determined, devoted to home and family, sincere

• Caleb Plummer (late 40s/early 60s) a toymaker - poverty-stricken, a loving father with a shameful secret

• Bertha Plummer (20s) Caleb’s blind daughter - instinctive, perceptive, but charmingly naive

• Edward Plummer (20s/early 30s) Caleb’s son - a sailor, believed lost at sea, spends much of the play disguised as an old man

• Tackleton (40s-60s) Caleb’s employer - a Scrooge-like character, stern, ill-natured, sarcastic

• May Fielding (20s/30s) Dot’s best friend – Edward’s sweetheart before he went to sea, loving, loyal, vulnerable

• Mrs. Fielding (late 40s/late 50s) May’s widowed mother - garrulous, flighty, poor but extravagant

• Tilly Slowboy (any age) the Peerybingle’s nursemaid - slow-witted, emotional, comical, devoted to the Peerybingle’s baby
